Slow.  HOT.  Ran the Railroad Track Trail with Jonathan.  I asked him last night if he had any trail shoes.  He said no.  I told him to run in old tennis shoes.  He said he would "figure something out," so I left it at that.  I got to his house today and he is running in his vibram five fingers.  I realize that people run in these all the time.  But, they generally start out with like a mile at a time and build up to higher mileage.  He had never run a single step in them and had only bought them for a mission trip to Nicaragua last fall.  His feet were killing him; can't wait to see how they feel tomorrow.  He ran 5.4 while I ran 6.5.  It was 80 degrees out.  Whew... and humid!  And, the bugs were out in full force.  Did you know that the mosquito is the state bird of Alabama?  I'm glad to have this one over with.  I am not a fan of the heat.  Can we go back to 50 degree days, pretty please?

After my run I saw this little guy.  Yep, I definitely need to buy some pepper spray.  Although he was nice, not all dogs are.  A mean dog his size could literally kill me.  He was just walking down the middle of the road on a route that I really plan to run when I start upping my mileage some.  He was HUGE.  A total sweetie too.  I love big dogs.  Love 'em!

(please notice all the lush greenery.  snow?  what is snow, utah friends?)

is it bad that i was realllllllly tempted to tell him to hop in the back of my car? really tempted. i think he and my horses would get along great. i bet he and i stared at each other in the middle of the road for at least 5 minutes. he was absolutely adorable.

the pepper spray would be for my rapist loop. i worry about rapists on it, but have been followed by an aggressive dog on that loop before too. i guess it is better to be safe than sorry as my mama likes to say.

Wow that's a really big dog. I'm glad he was friendly. I would die running in 80 degrees with humidity but I am getting tired of running in snow. During our Friday run it snowed the whole time.

I'm not sure I could walk in 80 degrees plus humidity, let alone run. I guess I'm spoiled here in Colorado.

The dog is huge. Are his ears tied together?

I saw a lot of dogs (all on leash) on the trail today. One was big and black and hairy and looked like a bear.

Nice or not, if I saw that dog loose in the road, I'm not sure I'd keep running toward him..even with pepper spray. He looks gi-normous.

Congrats on some good miles, I feel you on the heat & humidity. I want the spring from 3 weeks ago back, not this one.

Marmaduke!

His ears look like they are tied in a knot or something. We have TWO of those bests in our neighborhood, but they must be the nicest dogs. They just watch me run by, they do not even so much as move or bark.
