Another great day.

Walked about 9 miles today.  I'm pretty sure my calves would fall off if I tried to run.  Walking is definitely harder than running.

Saw some awesome stuff.  We truly live in an absolutely amazing country.  As a total history nerd, I am loving everything in DC.

Where I am staying for the week:

It's a bit smaller than I am used to, but I'll suck it up and deal with it.

I'm a history nerd too. I heart C-Span.

How long are you in D.C.? You might already be home for all I can tell.

I just got home yesterday. I was there a week. It was fantastic!

Oh! I'm going on Friday. I've never been! I don't think I'll have enough time for sight-seeing (I'm going for a wedding) but I'd like to at least see a few things. We'll see.

From KP on Tue, May 25, 2010 at 15:05:33 from 65.208.22.26

oh boy... where is the wedding? if you have time, take the metro to the national mall. from there, congress, the smithsonian(s), the washington monument, world war II memorial, vietnam war memorial, and lincoln monument are all within 1.5 miles of each other, i'd say; lincoln being the furthest away. but, you can see him from the washington monument which isn't far away. i hope you have time to be a tourist... if only for a few hours. it really is an amazing city!

The wedding is downtown and we are staying at the Hyatt Regency (I think). Something reeeeeeeeal overpriced. But it should make it easier to see things, even if I do a running tour :)

according to this, it is 1 mile from washington to lincoln. if you get off at the smithsonian train stop, that would add in an extra .50 or so. that is right in the middle of the national mall, so you would have a good view of congress. these were all my favorite things to see while there. it is nice that they are all together.

hope this helps! let me know if you have any other questions. i'll be happy to help!!

Thanks for the suggestions! That helps a lot. I hope to have some time to walk around when we get there on Friday, but it depends on the rehearsal dinner time. Saturday I should have a little time too.

okay, so if you look at google maps:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=-&fb=1&ie=UTF8&hl=en&view=map&cid=16825439707813619978&iwloc=A&ved=0CFMQpQY&sa=X&ei=AR78S_ylD6f-ugP0l4CXDg

the hyatt appears to be about 4 blocks from the capital (no train needed! - you are in a good location!). if you move the map down to the capital and then move it left, everything is in a straight line - capital, washington, wwII, lincoln. several museums are in your area too. you really are in an awesome location! when you get to the washington monument, if you'll move the map up, you'll see the white house. it is probably a mile that way. it was awesome to see as well!

i hope you get to explore a bit. if you have time for a run, all these areas are packed with runners and bikers! i encourage you to get out and see some stuff!
