Trails!  YAY!

Got to Monte Sano about an hour early.  I normally sit up there and do homework while I wait on my friends, but decided that I wanted to ride my bike for an hour instead.  I went down the old road that used to come to the top of the mountain.  I'd never been on it before.  It wasn't as bad as I expected.  1.55 miles each way.  Going down was obviously much easier than coming back up.  I saw 2 guys both ways and they kinda creeped me out because they were just standing there talking but they didn't really appear to be hikers or anything.  I took it easy both ways; 7 minutes down, 10 minutes up.  By the way, this is the biggest "mountain" (really one of the only mountains) in all of North Alabama.  It probably wouldn't even be considered a "hill" by most of y'alls standards.  I got back to the top and was going to ride some more, but one of my friends showed up, so I sat and talked with her until we were supposed to run.

By the time we were supposed to run, some very dark clouds had moved in over us.  We debated about skipping the run and just going to eat.  In the end, I, the voice of reason (or really the idiot), said that we were all on the mountain to run so we might as well do it.  Rain isn't going to hurt anyone.  They were more concerned about the lightning.  Blah blah blah.  We ran.  It poured and poured and poured.  It was absolutely fantastic.  My friend, Laura, and I splash right through all the puddles while the rest of them all try to go around.  That is always funny to me.  You're going to get dirty; just get over it.  Laura and I went to Panera Bread after running.  Yum!  We were both soaked and muddy and disgusting looking.  Ha!

I love your report. Awesome! Nice work getting in your run even though the weather was coming in. Sometimes running or hiking in the elements can be super fun, and those are the kids of experiences you will remember forever.

If it is the biggest hill around I want to climb it. :)

Yeah, you've got the heat and humidity, but we've got the mountains.

You really had a great attitude about the rain. I'm glad you had fun with it.

scott - this is at the top of the mountain. they changed the road several years ago because part of the road washed away. i know lots of people that have run up the entire thing (nevels being one of them - he is crazy though). i don't forsee myself ever doing that. i do believe i would die about halfway up.

carolyn - you are absolutely right. even if you weren't super speedy and tons faster than me, i could never keep up with you simply because of the hills. i walk those :)

Run AND dinner - THAT is the way that I would roll as well :) However, I HATE wet feet so I'd probably try to tip toe around the puddles as well. Even though the rain is in coming in the top :) - I'm a little finicky that way! I don't mind running soaking wet in the rain, but don't make me jump in a mud puddle - or swim through it! You are one tough chicka, some day I'm going to let you push me in a mud puddle so I get over it!

Sounds like a fabulous day. I love the rain when you don't have like 10 or more miles to do. Sounds beautiful (+Panera ....yum, love that place).

Sounds like my kind of run!

From april27 on Fri, Jun 18, 2010 at 00:08:50 from 99.188.251.180

sounds like you can't run anymore with getting soaking wet since that race! show off!! LOL

Was it cold in Panera? That is what would bother me...being cold in the store while eating!

From KP on Fri, Jun 18, 2010 at 09:09:23 from 65.208.22.26

Panera was FREEZING! I was dumb and ordered a coke too. We sat and talked for like 3 hours. I was seriously an ice cube when we left. It was fun though.

Thanks for the welcome! :)

And your trail run sounds incredibly fun! That's something I haven't ventured into yet, as I'm just not sure where to GO yet. But I'm sure I'll figure that out eventually. :)

Happy Friday!

I see what you mean about puddles. I think that your attitude is entirely correct.

From The Quiet Pirate on Sat, Jun 19, 2010 at 21:52:50 from 65.191.108.72

Your blog entry sounds so wonderful! I loved the run in the rain, splashing in the puddles, and 3 hour dinner at Panera- and all with friends. I'm jealous!

I wonder though, with the exception of your feet in puddles, were you really any wetter from the rain than you would have been from the sweat and humidity?

Throw an extra sweatshirt/jacket in your car for those cold restaurants. I usually have to wear one when I go out to eat, even when I'm not just off a super downpour run :-)

Nice work!
