Slept a little last night with the help of drugs.  Thank you Tylenol PM.

We walked about 8 miles today.  Another great day in Washington DC.

I see runners EVERYWHERE in this town.  I have had the "itch" to run everyday because all these other people are out doing something that is so fun.  It has made me jealous.  Today I wore tennis shoes to do our tourist thing rather than flip flops.  First thing this morning I had to run from the train station to the Washington Monument.  We had tickets to go up at 9:30 and we had train delays this morning due to "scheduled maintenance" on the tracks.  We got off the train with about 5 minutes to spare.  I had to run up to the monument to secure our spot in line and the girls I was with met me there when they caught up.  I'd say that was probably about .75 and I ran it pretty quickly (for me) and even illigeally crossed a street, which I had never done.

After going to the Smithsonian we ate lunch at a park bench at the National Mall.  I got a BBQ sandwich.  It was okay, but definitely not like the BBQ back home.  After eating, I told my mom I was going to run the mall.  Running on a full stomach sucked.  Seeing all the runners out was driving me crazy...  I wanted to participate.  I had on street clothes which was.... fun.  I didn't have my watch with me, but from mapmyrun.com figured out I ran about 1.75 miles.  I finished in 15:19, which is a quick pace for me.  I crossed 4 more roads illigeally on this run too!  Geeze... what has gotten into me?

Here are some horrible pics my mom snapped:

Getting ready to go.  Please look at those shorts.  I have a new appreciation for proper running attire.

Mom was more focused on getting the Capital building than me.

Enjoying a drink after the run.  I didn't have any water, so this Pepsi had to do.

How FUN! It looks like you had a great run - both times :) I'm glad you got a run in and got to enjoy the environment as well. Think of all the people that were envious of YOU today!!!

I get jealous of runners too! My friends make fun of me for looking at them while I am driving somewhere. I didn't know that there were a lot of runners in DC, looks fun!

You never know, pepsi might become the new recovery drink :-P

That's great that you managed to do some running in DC. And as street clothes go, those aren't too bad for running.

Thanks for sharing your pictures! There are several good running groups (Galloway, DC Fit) that would probably let you join them next time you are in DC and have the itch to run.

Thanks for all the pictures and commentary. It shows you are a real runner when you can't stand to just be a spectator. I ran the mall on a business trip a year ago and I agree about all the runners there. Good running town.

Looks like beautiful running! I have happy memories of running in DC? Many, many, many years ago!

AWESOME!!! Yep, you're a real runner when you're itching to run while playing tourist! I LOVE DC, so many wonderful places to run, not to mention all the history in the heart of our nation! THANKS for sharing the pix. Made me want to visit again soon.

You've got such good form. And I like your pink watch.

I'm glad you got to run in DC! It's good you thought to wear your running shoes.

Thanks for sharing the pix. And you're right, BBQ is different from region to region. We could do a BBQ documentary where we try all the different BBQ's around the country, and rate them along with the running in that area. It could be called, "Runnin' for the Q."

Hope you had a safe trip home, and no more creepy moustache visitors.

Nothing beats caffeine right after a run!!! And the capitol picture with you right there is perfect!

Glad you are enjoying yourself.

thanks guys!

beef - DC is a very active town. i saw people running or on bikes everywhere. i wish i lived in a town like that. i think it would motivate me more.

burt - are you joking on my form? seriously. i have horrible running form. seriously. if this were a video rather than a photograph, you would be laughing. oh yea... thanks! i love my pink watch too! i pretty much never take it off; even wear it with dresses to church, etc.

QP - that sounds delightful! plan it and i'll participate. of course, alabama has the best BBQ though. duh!

Great pics KP! I think Burt has the same pink watch, that's why he likes it.

I just read through your week in DC-- you did do A LOT of walking! It's such a great city to run and walk in. I love the Mt. Vernon Trail and C&O Canal or even, just running up and down the Mall and through the monuments. So many things to do and see. It makes you WANT to run while you're there for sure!
