Ran the Jingle Bell Run 5k with Nana.  I have NEVER in my life met someone who can walk as fast as her.  It is unreal.  She'll jog for a minute or two (which I love; nice and slow) and then she'll walk for a few minutes.  I can not physically walk that fast.  I would try my hardest to keep up with her and she would slowly pull ahead of me until she started running again... then I would catch up.  We finished in about 37 minutes (we started late  - bathroom break - so our official time was like 40 something).  She finished first in her age group at ripe young age of 72.

This was a special race day for me, as a friend of mine that was in a horrific bike accident last year (they expected him to be paralyzed for the rest of his life), walked/shuffled the entire 3.1.  He was an avid ultrarunner prior to his accident.  I know he misses it more than you could ever imagine.  I was SO proud of him.  At this race last year, we were all excited that he was able to move his wheelchair up and down the hall with his feet when he spent several months in a spinal cord injury hospital in Atlanta.  I have never met someone with a more positive attitude.  He truly inspires me.

Go power walkin' Nana!! I love it. I had to walk my Turkey Trot last year because baby Fartlek was being...well, a Fartlek and I was under Dr's orders not to run. I think I finished around 38 minutes. That is one FAST walk!!

How exciting about your friend in the accident. You truly have an inspiration there, nothing can stop that man!
