Disclaimer:  A non-running related post.

This isn't a running blog or anything, right?  I did get lots of walking in on Sunday afternoon...

I hope y'all had a wonderful Easter!  I had a wonderful weekend filled with family gatherings.

Here is what I wanted to share:

Sunday after church and a delicious lunch with my mom, brother, and sister-in-law, my mom and I went to the local Botanical Gardens to see the tulips, my favorite flower.  We go every year around this time.  Well, after the hard Alabama winter (all you Utah folks keep your comments to yourself...) the tulips were a bit late in blooming and most aren't ready yet.  I bet they'll be beautiful next weekend.  Moving on....

So Mom and I were a bit frustrated about the tulip situation and were walking around this large water feature/pond thing they have when Mom spotted a SNAKE in the water!  We stopped and took pictures of it, etc.  I thought it was cool!  We pointed it out to a little boy who thought it was neat and got excited about it and got loud.  Therefore lots of other people knew too.  Someone "reported it to the authorities" so they sent some 16-year old volunteer kid down to the pond to "handle the situation."  He and a young girl worked on trying to get the snake out of the water for at least 30 minutes.  Mom and I sat on a bench and watched and laughed hysterically at the situation... he was tricky to catch!  They finally caught him with a net and were trying to walk him to the woods to release him when he got out again.  So they pinned him down with the net and the boy grabbed him.  He was NOT a happy snake...

Oh, and a pretty flower picture just for Burt:

Happy Easter!!!

Sorry for hijacking the running blog.  I just wanted to share my snake story.  I did walk several miles around the Botanical Gardens if that counts for anything...

The non running posts are the BEST!!!!

Okay, that snake scares me, it look mighty mean!

I have to say the weather looks beautiful! Should I take a picture of our Easter snow for you?

KP - calling me out hey, like your style, I love mashmellows, don't like coddling them. Sweat and marshmellows go well together. What is your take on Trialing Aristotle - marshmellows and not so marashmellowees would do well to follow his trail.

I'm not so sure I would be so calm about a snake, but at least he wasn't too huge. They sent a 16 year old boy to deal with it? That must have been some boy.

The flower is beautiful.

Thanks for sharing your story.

Just so everyone knows, the flowers aren't "for" me, although I'd be flattered if they were. The "picture" of the flower is being posted because I saw them on her facebook and commented on how good her photography skills are.

No Burt, the flower is for you. I have about 107 million more where that came from too. I only posted a few on FB.

My photo skillz are not what I wish they were.

Oh, how sweet.

Nice pics KP! Was that you holding the snake?! If you were, you are brave! I wouldn't lol. What kind of flower is that?

From KP on Tue, Apr 06, 2010 at 12:59:09 from 65.208.22.25

Me, holding the snake?!?! HA! I am a total country girl and have held many a snake in my time. But I no longer partake in that lovely activity. That would be the 16-year old volunteer at the Gardens holding the snake. I told him after I took the picture that he needed a raise (that was a joke (a bad one, I know) as he gets paid nothing being a volunteer).

The flower... ummmmm... a pretty purple one? Is that right?

Looks like the snake didn't get any Easter eggs! Poor snake :(

From RAD on Tue, Apr 06, 2010 at 14:15:58 from 67.172.229.125

Wow, I couldn't have sat and watched...I'm deathly afraid of snakes!!! Like seriously, if I see one even 30 feet away I scream like a little girl and feel panicked inside like I'm going to die!

Thanks for ending with the Hyacinth - I'm calm now.

what an adventure!

Everyone has days when we don't run (well, almost everyone) and walking is cross training, so post away!

Love the story and the pix.

Are you getting hammered by the heat yet? We've been almost up to 90 the last few days. Spring lasted 2 weeks, and it's over :-(
